Abstract;Percutaneous intramedullary cordotomy (PCC) alleviates pain by blocking the anterolateral column. PCC is a preferred method to subarachnoid phenol block against sublumbar melagra. PCC is also used when subarachnoid phenol block cannot be applied because of reasons such as spinal metastasis or extensive pain. To patients with painful arm provoked by disturbance of phrenic nerve by tumor in brachial plexus, however, PCC is not applicable as it could cause respiratory failure by impairing the healthy phrenic nerve.
