| Abstract; The safety and efficacy of replacement of talipexole with pramipexole in the treatment of Parkinson's disease were evaluated. Switching was performed rapidly or slowly, depending on the clinical conditions of the patient. Follow-up was conducted for four weeks after switching was completed. With the slow-switching method, the total score of Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) Part III (motor function test) as efficacy evaluation was significant; and the incidence of adverse drug reactions was reduced to one third as compared to the rapid-switching method. This suggests that the slow-switching method is more useful than the rapid-switching method for the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The drug equivalence for switching was 0.4mg (1 tablet) of talipexole to 0.5mg (1 tablet) of pramipexole. The present study shows that the replacement of talipexole with pramipexole is an effective and safe procedure for treating patients with Parkinson's disease. (author abst.) |
