| Abstract; We have been using octy1-2-cyanoacrylate for skin closure in muscle biopsy, and could safely perform a biopsy from the left biceps brachii from a patient who had been on anticoagulation which was temporally stopped and switched on heparin drip during biopsy. No complications, such as hemorrhage from suture, wound infection, suture imperfection, and contact dermatitis, were observed. The following is our routine method. Biopsy site is being sutured by Halsted's subcuticular technique using absorbable threads, and then octyl-2-cyanoacrylate is coated 3 times on the biopsy site after confirming complete dryness of the preceding application. The biopsy site, not being covered with gauze and bandage, is visible, and furthermore there is no need to worry about infection and bleeding/effusion so that the patient can enjoy taking a shower from the next day. This method is superior in cosmetic because of the mark of a suture is not left. We would like to highly recommend octyl-2-cyanoacrylate for skin closure in muscle biopsy. (author abst.) |
