| Abstract; No standardized methods are currently available for objectively evaluating wrinkles. We investigated the usefulness of photographic evaluation by more than one doctor, the percentage reduction in wrinkles as determined by wrinkle analysis using a replica, and self-evaluation by subjects in a study of wrinkle improvement following iontophoresis using cosmetics containing ascorbic acid. Subjects were 29 female volunteers (age range, 30-59 years; mean, 45.2 years) with small wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes. Using the half-side method, iontophoresis was performed on one half of the face, while the other half was left untreated as a control. Treatment was continued for 6 weeks, then the results were evaluated. The treated side showed significantly greater improvement compared to the control side for all endpoints. Investigation of the correlation between endpoints showed significant correlation between photographic evaluation and percentage reduction in wrinkles; however, no correlation was noted between self-evaluation and the other 2 endpoints. Based on these results, photographic evaluation by more than one medical specialist and the percentage reduction in wrinkles as determined by wrinkle analysis using a replica appear useful for evaluating wrinkles improvement.
