Abstract; There is little research on the residents' attitude on safety in buildings or neighborhoods. In this study, a questionnaire about disaster prevention and crime prevention was made to grasp the present condition of it and the result was analyzed using the technique of structural equation model. The main conclusion is that it is not dissatisfaction nor fear but attraction of buildings and neighborhoods and attachment to them that enhance residents' interest and result in action to improve them.
