Abstract; In patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the no-reflow phenomena, the lack of myocardial perfusion in spite of successful coronary reflow by primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), is associated with the poor prognosis in both acute and chronic phases. In the present study we examined the effect of statin which had been administered before AMI on the development of the no-reflow. The incidence of the no-reflow after PCI was significantly lower in patients receiving chronic statin pre-treatment before AMI than in those without it. Multivariate analysis showed that the chronic statin pre-treatment was an independent predictive factor for the no-reflow. These results suggest that statin treatment is beneficial not only for the prevention of myocardial infarction but for reducing its insult in patients with high risk for coronary artery diseases.
