Abstract;Thirty nine patients in the acute phase of mild cerebral infarction (with modified NIH stroke scale score of less than 6), randomly received 1) hemodilution therapy (group I), 2) plus intravenous ozagrel Na (160mg/day) (group II), 3) plus intravenous edaravone (60mg/day) (group III), or 4) plus intravenous glycyrrhizin (40 to 80mg/ day) (group IV). All patients of group I, III and IV and most of the patients in goup II received oral aspirin (81 to 300mg/day). Thirty seven of the 39 patients completely healed within 3 months after the treatment start, but each one in group I and II didn't. Fourteen patients of group IV healed significantly earlier compared with group I by both of Steel and Steel-Dwass tests (p<0.05). Group II and III also healed significantly earlier than group I by Steel test, but not by Steel-Dwass. Glycyrrhizin can be useful for the treatment of lacunar cerebral infarction in the acute phase, considering the cost of glycyrrhizin therapy is by far lower than those of ozagrel Na and edaravone.
