| Abstract;Recent studies using genetically techniques brought about the remarkable progress in our understanding of Spinocerebellar degeneration (SCD). This genetical data is expected to contribute to the treatment of SCD. If any treatment turned out to be effective in an early stage of SCD, it might provide a clinical tool for slowing or even preventing SCD progression. A new approach to SCD treatment is to use repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) that is applied to disease of the brain including depression or Parkinson disease. In this review, we discuss the clinical and scientific bases for using rTMS as SCD treatment, and review the results of previous trials. In conclusion, systematic large-scale and realistic sham-controlled studies are needed to identify patient populations most likely to benefit and treatment parameters most likely to produce success.
