| Abstract; Some large-scale ocean utilization technologies, such as ocean fertilization, CO2 ocean sequestration and ocean energy, have been recently proposed and developed to reduce or compensate land-based resource and energy productions, which are based on huge amount of fossil fuel consumptions. In this paper, an index to assess inclusive environmental impact is proposed for comparing these technologies with the land-based alternatives. The proposed index, named "Inclusive Impact Index (III, triple I)", consists of ecological footprint, ecological risk, health risk and cost (benefit) terms. These terms are integrated into ecological footprint concept, and their units are converted into global hectare. (author abst.) |
