Abstract; The high luminous lighting system is indispensable for deep sea research applications. To secure the high visibility in the complete darkness world, existing deep sea research rovers or observatories set up high visual acuity halogen or HID (high intensity discharged: Metal Halide) lamp for its luminaries. Existing deep sea luminaries have the sufficient intensity of illumination, but their uneasiness in long-term reliability and limitation of length of operating period are bottleneck for the expected future four dimensional long-term ocean observations. The high luminous white LED (Light Emitting Diode), which is a fairly new arrival in the luminaries market, is expected to be the light of next generation. The LED's have high reliability, very long operating period, and simple internal structure. These characteristics are suitable for applying the LED's as pressure balanced lighting application. This paper describes the structure and the composition of high luminous LED deep sea lighting system and shows the experimental results from sea trials. (author abst.)
