Abstract;Muneo YOSHIE Oil Spill Response Division, Port and Airport Research Institution Isamu FUJITA Oil Spill Response Division, Port and Airport Research Institution Abstract There are many crane ships at the each port of all around Japan. So it is very effective to use them for oil spill response in case of emergency. In such cases, it is very important to use collecting and containing oil boom. However, it is difficult to deploy the oil boom if the personnel are not trained well. The buoy system is to deploy the oil boom from side of the ship in V or U shape. The buoy moves automatically by force from its flap in current under water. The system will be set on the deck of a crane ship, and a rope keeps the buoy. The research and development of the system is now on going, and some experiments have done in our large wave and circuit tunnel tank. This paper shows results of the experiments. (author abst.)
