| Abstract; When we utilize a very large-scale floating structure, the structure may have moon pools for taking sun shine under the structure or being a space for communing with sea water. Another possibility is in the case of temporary replacement of the some part of the VLFS for some reason; its part becomes the moon pool temporary. In this research, we carried out experiments on a large scale floating structure with a moon pool by using a very small water tank. The size of the experimental water tank is 4m of length, 2m of width and 10cm of depth. This tank is obviously much smaller than a general water tank for the marine structure model basin. In the experiments, we measured the surface wave elevations inside of the moon pool and also measured the hydroelastic deformations of the floating structure. In the paper, we discuss the phenomena of the waves in the moon pool by comparing with the numerical results. Then we examine the relation between the phenomena of the surface waves inside of the moon pool and the elastic deformations of the structure experimentally and numerically. (author abst.) |
