Abstract; In the present study, a new method of damage detection in large offshore structure is proposed based on the seismic tomography and ocean acoustic tomography. Effective damage detection will be important technology concerning the maintenance and repair of floating structure and reduction of the running cost. The damage assumed in this method is not the detail crack but relatively large damage which can be detected by visual inspection. The detection algorithm utilizes the difference observed between the wave propagation data in intact condition and the data after damage. In order to verify and confirm the availability of the proposed method, basic experiment and numerical simulation were carried out using flat plate. The propagation of elastic wave in the flat plate was simulated by FEM analysis and measured data were compared, and model experiment was carried out and the damage in the flat plate was successfully detected.
