Abstract;Today, the physical property of density and refractive index can be measured by oscillation type density meter and digital refractive index meter, respectively, now available on the market. Though the reference material required for calibration of density meters was started open to public only four years ago, the reference material for refractive index measurement is limited to only a few which are supposedly traceable to the standard. In order to use the density or refractive index meter as an official and acceptable measuring tool with certification of measurement results as demanded from the industries, those references must be evaluated with specified uncertainty clearly verified and validated with traceability to the national standard, thus conforming to the international certification agreement authorized by WTO/TBT. Now that Kyoto Electronics can offer reference materials both for density and refractive index with evaluated uncertainty and traceable to the national standard, we would like to present basic methods of measurement and concept of traceability as follows.
