| Abstract; The transient calorimetric (TC) technique has been applied so far only for measuring total hemispherical emissivities of solid materials by using their known specific heat capacity data. A method based on the TC technique is proposed for measuring total hemispherical emissivities of nonconducting materials together with their specific heat capacities. A set of two specimens made of a sample material is prepared for the measurements. For the nonconducting materials, timbers of oak, zelkova and Japanese-cypress were selected. The total hemispherical emissivity of a standard paint used in this experiment was firstly measured with an experimental apparatus. Then the specific heat capacity and the emissivity of the sample material were measured with a set of the specimens by using the same apparatus. The temperature dependences of the measured values were clarified. The temperature distributions in the specimens were analytically obtained, and the error in the measured values was estimated.
