Abstract; The effect of various cosmetics containing tea tree oil and anti-oxidative substances on post-operative scars, due to blood access operations on the intensor surface of the upper limb, was studied in eleven patients with chronic renal failure on maintenance hemodialysis. Of seven patients, neither apparent hypertrophic nor prominent cicatrical change appeared in the post-operative internal shunt area during one year, when cosmetics had been topically applied subsequently after the removal of suture ligation. In another two cases, distinctive pigmentation within the scar, due to the blood access operation, had evidently disappeared after the topical use of cosmetics a year later. In an other two cases, a scar evidently appeared when the cosmetics were not used six months later. It seems that the cosmetics had a good effect on postoperative wound healing and skin pigmentation.
