| Abstract; With respect to the defects on hot dipped galvanized steel sheets, the formation of zinc and iron intermetallic compound like FeZn7 in which iron may be caused by the dissolution of steel sheets or precipitated zinc and iron compounds formerly in the zinc plated zone, and the adhesion of the compounds are experimentally investigated. The relation between the dross diameter and the sedimentation rates are determined experimentally, and the data are analyzed theoretically by the Navier-Stokes equation, and the k-.EPSILON. equations for treating turbulent flow. The results obtained are that 1) the sedimentation rate of the dross can be expressed by the Stokes equation, that 2) dross can deposit even such places as small turbulent flow and low flow velocity of zinc, and that 3) the dross is transported by the adjoin flow with steel strip to the bottom of the bath, and thus, the compounds apt to deposit at the entrance side of the strip than at the exit side. |
