| Abstract; We developed the e-Life Amenity System to provide amenities to children. This papers describes the results of evaluations of the system. They show that grade school children preferred avatars that had facial images ('face-type') when the communication partner was a member of the family. When the partner was not a member of the family, they preferred avatars without facial images, i.e. avatars with a character or cartoon features ('chara-type'). In two discernible trends, boys selected 'face-type' avatars when the communication partner was a member of the family, while girls selected 'chara-type' avatars when the communication partner was not a member of the family. Furthermore, junior grade children or girls preferred simple 2D (Two-Dimensional) facial images to avatars having 2D block heads with facial images when the communication partner was a member of the family.
