Abstract; This paper describes research to explore whether three-dimensional (3D) data of a building can be accurately reconstructed from video sequences. We investigate 3D reconstruction by detecting vanishing points in frames of an interlaced video sequence. While it is theoretically possible to reconstruct a 3D model of the building from a single image, the accuracy of such reconstruction is not sufficient because of deterioration of the image due to factors such as noise and dimness. Increasing the number of images would improve the accuracy of the reconstructed model. It is also possible to apply this method to video sequences; however, there is still deterioration caused by interlace scanning as well as noise in each video image. To overcome such deterioration, here we sought to improve the accuracy of the reconstructed model by increasing the number of frames to process. Experimental results show 50 frames or more are adequate for this method. (author abst.)
