Abstract; The case was in a 23-year-old woman, many acnes and acne cicatrices occured on the whole face, and the acnes were mainly large pustules. The principle of photodynamic therapy (PDT) is that by the internal use of 5-aminolaevulinic acid, protoporphyrin IX is absorbed in pilosebaceous system. It is effective for bacteria other than Propioni bacterium acnes, and also effective for severe acne lacking reaction for the treatment by antimicrobial drug. For acne treatment, internal administration is preferable for avoiding the damage to the epidermis. Though the dose is set to be 10-20mg/kg, since side effects such as nausea strengthen, as the dose is larger, in the Medies Dermatological Clinic, 10mg/kg is prescribed, dissolved in 10ml of purified water. The used wavelength is a red light of 633nm. In recent reports, it seems that the red light around 630nm is often used. While irradiating, the exposure time is adjusted to each patient, according to the changes in the skin and subjective symptoms such as pain and warmness. In this case, since a thermal sense appeared strongly, the irradiation was about 30J/square cm. Generally, the therapeutic effect appears in about 2 weeks, to be sustained for several months. For maintenance of the effect, it is better to continue the therapy every 2-3 months.
