Abstract; The target year of revival must be set before half of 1980s when the fishery resources in the Ariake Sea dropped sharply by the "Disaster" after the gates in a reclamation dike were constructed. The first step toward revival is opening the gates although it is strongly opposed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. Introduction of sea water to the reservoir inside Isahaya Bay by opening the gates will at last recover the remarkable deterioration of such environments as weakened tidal current, the poor oxygen-water mass and the red tides, and the serious decrease of the Ariake Sea fisheries. To revive the Sea as a sustainable and a unique ecosystem, the Isahaya land reclamation project should be cancelled even if the project is completed. It should be replaced by some alternative plans that would widen the gates or completely remove the dike. (author abst.)
