| Abstract;A basis of industrial power is the manufacturing no matter how IT technology becomes widespread around the world. It is becoming increasingly important for Japanese companies to develop creative ideas and putt them into practical use in terms of their survival, although the inventions do not have to be as significant as those of Edison. From this standpoint, it is conceivable that serendipity plays an important role in developing unique manufacturing technologies. It is a special ability to find or create interesting or valuable things by chance. In many cases, individuals with inquisitive mind happen to see some phenomena or conditions on some occasion in some place and further infer and develop a new manufacturing technology from them. However, this requires the correct understanding and observation of natural phenomena in addition to inquisitive mind and wealth of experience and the ability to recognize the significance in them based on the past experience.
